NIKKEN Supports School Robotics Team’s Success at International Competition!
Here at NIKKEN, we believe in encouraging and empowering the next generation of engineers. This is why we recently contributed to sponsorship funding to the Wath Central Primary School’s robotics club on their trip to The VEX IQ World Robotics Engineering Championships in Kentucky, USA.
The club, named NU Alliance, started up as a lunchtime robotics group where they researched, designed, built and programmed their very own robot. The team of six then entered the robotics competition, competing in regional and national competitions, to eventually become only one of two primary school teams from the UK to get through to the world finals! In order to compete in Kentucky, the school had to raise £20,000 in funding. Seeing this as an opportunity to support and encourage budding young engineers, NIKKEN generously contributed to their funds, enabling the team to make the journey to the USA to take part in the competition.
The team did incredibly well, finishing in the top 100 of 600 competing teams. On their return, we arranged for the team to take a tour of the NIKKEN Innovation Centre, to celebrate their success and to experience the sights and sounds of an up to date, modern engineering environment. The children brought along and demonstrated their robot to our teams, and were clearly enthusiastic and passionate about their design and excitedly discussed all the improvements they had planned for their design for the coming year. As part of the tour, the children were given the opportunity to machine their very own medals, which the NIKKEN team had designed to celebrate the children’s wonderful achievements.
NIKKEN would like to congratulate the Wath Primary School robotics team, Chloe Theaker, Neve Hopwood, Martha Ransford, Jordan Billups, Lila Mollekin and Phoebe Shimwell. The NIKKEN team are extremely proud of their achievements and are honoured to have been able to help them on their journey and their success. We wish them all the very best of luck for next year’s competition.
